UC Riverside admitted the most California first-year students for fall 2024 of any University of California campus, according to numbers released by the UC system on July 31. Its 36,585 outpaced No. 2 Santa Cruz by more than 1,500.

UCR also set a campus record for first-year admits, with 44,328, an increase of more than 4,000 from fall 2023. It was a record-setting year for the entire UC system with 93,920 first-year admission offers to California students and 166,706 total admission offers.

Drilling down further, UCR admitted the most Black first-year students of any campus, with 2,054. It admitted the second-most Black transfer students among the UCs.

UCR also admitted the most low-income first-year students, with 15,747, and the most first-year first-generation students, 16,370. Those numbers are in keeping with UCR’s demographics, which include about 46% low-income students, and 50% first-generation students.

This past fall, UCR enrolled 26,426 students, an increase of more than 5,000 students over 10 years. UCR’s long-range plans call for 35,000 students by 2035. In support of that growth, UCR is in the midst of an aggressive building phase. A new student-housing project, North District 2, is set to open by fall 2025, providing 1,568 new beds. This fall, the School of Business will open its new four-story classroom building. And ground is breaking on a new classroom building, the Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Facility, which will grow classroom capacity by 1,700 seats.

“We are proud that UC Riverside has admitted the largest first-year class of any UC campus this year, as well as the largest combined first-year and transfer California residents’ class,” said Veronica Zendejas, UCR’s director of undergraduate admissions. “This reflects our commitment to providing access to higher education for California students and the dedication of our faculty and staff. We look forward to the diverse perspectives and talents these students will bring."
